ENRICO DINDO

Born into a musical family, Enrico Dindo encountered the cello at the age of six, as though the instrument had always been waiting for him. He came of age under the tutelage of Antonio Janigro, and in 1997 his gift was consecrated by the First Prize at the "Rostropovich" Competition in Paris — a threshold that confirmed a destiny already written.
Following eleven years as Principal Solo Cellist of the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan (1987–1998), he embarked on a solo career that has taken him to the most distinguished stages in the world. His voice enters into dialogue with legendary orchestras — from the BBC Philharmonic to the Rotterdam Philharmonic, from the Orchestre National de France to the Filarmonica della Scala, from the London Philharmonic to the Chicago Symphony, and the great ensembles of Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Toronto, Leipzig and Berlin — and has been shaped by the vision of the foremost conductors of our time: Riccardo Chailly, Gianandrea Noseda, Myung-Whun Chung, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Riccardo Muti, and Mstislav Rostropovich himself, who described him in these words: «He is a cellist of extraordinary qualities, a complete artist and fully formed musician, possessed of an exceptional sound that flows like a splendid Italian voice».
Numerous contemporary composers have written for him, drawn by his singular voice: Giulio Castagnoli, Carlo Boccadoro, Carlo Galante, Roberto Molinelli, Fabio Vacchi, Mauro Montalbetti and Jorge Bosso.

Founder and Artistic Director of the chamber orchestra I Solisti di Pavia, which he led from 2001 to 2024, he served as Music Director of the HRT Symphony Orchestra in Zagreb from 2014 to 2021, and as Artistic Director of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana from 2022 to 2024. Alongside his interpretive vocation, he maintains a profound commitment to teaching, holding positions at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, the Accademia di Musica in Pinerolo, the Accademia "Perosi" in Biella, Avos Project in Rome, and the summer courses of the Garda Lake Music Festival.
His discography reflects a journey of deep artistic inquiry and poetic resonance: for Chandos he recorded the two Shostakovich Concertos with the Danish National Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda; for Dynamic, the Dvoƙák Concerto with Daniele Rustioni; for Naxos, a monographic album devoted to Castelnuovo-Tedesco; for Decca, the complete works for cello and piano by Beethoven, the Six Suites of J.S. Bach, and — with I Solisti di Pavia — concertos by C.P.E. Bach, Vivaldi and Haydn, the Concerto by Kapustin, and works by Piazzolla.
A Fellow of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Enrico Dindo entrusts his voice to a precious Pietro Giacomo Rogeri cello of 1717 (ex Piatti), generously made available to him by the Fondazione Pro Canale: an instrument of another age that, in his hands, continues to tell timeless stories.
